This week’s releases – Newton, Bhoomi and Haseena Parkar – opened to average responses at the domestic box office on its opening day.
Released in around 350 screens, Rajkummar Rao’s movie witnessed a slow start, but the overwhelming reviews from audience and critics resulted in a jump in its business in the evening shows.
Bhoomi, despite receiving mixed reviews, pulled the audience to the theatres owing to Sanjay Dutt, who made a comeback to films after his five-year jail term in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena Parkar is expected to collect Rs 2 crore nett. “I am expecting ‘Haseena Parkar’ to reach the Rs 2 crore mark on Friday. During the weekend, the film will earn Rs 7-8 crore,” Indian Express quoted trade analyst Girish Johar as saying.
On the other hand, Johar has predicted that Newton will collect around Rs 1-1.5 crore nett at the domestic box office on its opening day. “I am expecting ‘Newton’ to get an opening of Rs 1-1.5 crore. The film is already getting excellent feedback and good word-of-mouth. It is sure to do well in the coming days,” he said.
However, given that Rajkummar Rao’s Newton has made its entry in the Oscars 2018, it may turn the tables around in terms of the box office collection. It is likely to perform much better than the other two releases by the end of the first week. In fact, during the Navratri festival holidays next week, the collection of Newton is expected to take a huge jump.
